Suraj Varma: Senior Ayurvedic Therapist

Suraj brings to the Spa at Chancery Court nearly 15 years experience as an Holistic Ayurvedic therapist. Suraj has built his career on his inspiring and deep knowledge of Ayurvedic traditions, passed down through his family for many generations, in the Indian state of Kerala, famous for founding the ancient wellness system known as Ayurveda, which is fast catching on in the West.

A direct descendent of the Vayaskara Moose Ayurvedic family, Suraj commenced his training as a boy assisting at his father’s and family Ayurvedic practice . After university, he continued his Ayurvedic studies at postgraduate level and completed his apprenticeship to become a qualified Ayurvedic Medical practitioner .

Suraj started his holistic approach and healing work with the best Hospitals in India . Since then, he has worked at top spas in the UK and abroad, treating many high-profile clients. He helped launch the award-winning ESPA One Spa in Edinburgh, joined complementary health guru Dr. Mosaraf Ali as an Ayurvedic therapist at the Integrated Medical Centre, and worked as an on-location therapist for Merchant Ivory Productions, travelling all over the world before joining Anouska Hempel’s fashionable Blakes Hotel. Suraj now brings his unique skills to the Spa at Chancery Court.

Suraj’s philosophy is simple: ‘My life has always revolved around Ayurveda and I firmly believe in its benefits. I love to create a feeling of calm and well-being in the people I look after. In my therapies I combine healing, balancing and relaxation in a serene, caring atmosphere. No two people are the same, so within my treatments there will always be variation according to what each client needs. Healing Ayurvedic Massage can do great things for people: along with reducing stress, it improves circulation and muscle tone, boosts the immune system and helps get rid of toxins. My greatest happiness comes from making a positive difference in people’s lives—from seeing the faces of my clients before I give my treatment, and after—that says it all.
